For our guest bedroom and bath in the 2024 Real Simple Home, we channeled Barbra Streisand in the 1969 movie "Funny Girl." Much like the movie sets and costumes in Funny Girl, the goal was for our spaces to feel opulent, a little art deco, and eclectic. In the bedroom, we opted for a mauve-painted backdrop, crushed velvet bedding in chocolate brown, and deep purple curtains. The effect is a soothing and polished backdrop for pops of flora (the lotus light and dried floral arrangement) and fauna (the tiger pillow and snake table). We brought similar pink, purple, rust, and tan hues to the adjoining bathroom to make the two spaces feel cohesive. Using 5 different colors of Fireclay tile, we created our own mosaic, and the sculptural arch in front of the tub, with its hand-painted cranberry trim, adds a little drama to the space.
